Back in 1996, The English Basketball Association initiated the Outdoor Basketball Initiative (OBI) with the aim of providing basketball for all.  Since then the Sport England Lottery Fund has provided grant aid of £10million resulting in the installation of 9150 outdoor basketball goals across England. 

Although no further goals are to be installed through the initiative the OBI is still having a tremendous impact with outdoor basketball goals now accepted as a standard provision in many parks, open spaces and schools across the country.
